wow I've been so busy I almost forgot about my 8 months anne. I am absolutely in love with my locks but as all love does it comes with its share of frustrations. For one this build-up issue will not rest and I am at a loss for what to do. I have switched shampoos, I use a scarf i just dont know. Also the front of my hair still is not locked. It has actually begun slip can you believe it? At 8 months my hair is slipping, the unraveling at the ends has officially turn to slippage in quite a few locks. sigh. Also my edges have begun to get week since I have been retightening. I think this is partly due to me connecting some locks by a couple strands and popping them to seperate. So needless to say I believe I will be going to a consultant very soon. Other that that my locks are doing very well LOL. The back is really locked the middle is partly locked and some of the front is showing good signs of becoming locked soon and other just want to be free. Most of all my locks have lots and lots of personality.

Hey Kay - you definitely sound frustrated. With retightening you definitely want to be extremely careful in the front so that you don't have to pop any hairs. If you end you joining two locks together just let them grow out for a few weeks and it will be easier to seperate them. The unraveling I'm dealing with for a few locks in the front as well. The only thing I can recommend is to stop sleeping with a cap/scarf and just sleep on a satin/silk pillowcase to allow your locks to breathe and not rub up against two textures every night. The build up -- what have you tried? The VO5, helped with my white bulbs. You need a good clarifying shampoo it sounds like.
yeah I just got a pantene pro-v clarifying shampoo and it has all that sulfate stuff thats we are not suppoe to use but at this point I dont even care, it really didnt do anything but dry out my hair though so i'm ready to take that whole row out but I dont even think that will help because I did over 5 a couple of months ago and those now have build up in them again too. My last resort is going to be an ACV rinse and then I'm just going to color it. I want to Henna my hair anyway.
Kay, I also xperienced the buildup issue too. I did not catch much of mine early on so now it is embedded into my neck locks. I hide it with dark and lovely almond rain oil mist. I suggest you stay on top of it. If you can, have someone else to inspect your locks daily and remove the lint asap.
some people say use an apple cider vinegar rinse... you'll have to google the mixing amounts, but i have started spritzing my hair with sea breeze and working my fingers through the locks with build up. then let is sit for about 10 minutes then washing it out. not sure if you found a solution yet, but excellent blog :)
